Do I PreQualify for DSL service?
What
is DSL?
- DSL:
Digital Subscriber Line
New technology
enabling more bandwidth than users
have ever had. It runs over existing
copper wires; standard phone lines
between you (the end user) and the
telephone company.
Does
DSL Have Any Security Issues Like
Cable Modems?
- No.
DSL is not a shared network service
like cable modems, which means that
one end-user can not see what's
on a neighbor's computer using DSL.
The service is a private dedicated
connection from the end-user to
the network.
What Does DSL Mean for You?
- DSL
gives you great data transmission
speed at home or at work.
- It's
extremely affordable.
- No
dialing, you're always connected
to the Internet.

is ADSL?
-
ADSL: Asymmetric
Digital Subscriber Line.
- This
new technology allows ordinary phone
lines to become high-speed digital
lines for fast Internet access.
- Data
travel faster downstream than upstream
because it is asymmetrical. Is there

the DSL modem/router. Simultaneous

with your DSL bandwidth.

public, you must go through a dealer
to purchase their product.

Comparing
DSL, Cable Modems, Analog Modems,
ISDN
- DSL:
Telephone companies providing high
bandwidth services to home and business
using their existing telephone cable
infrastructure. Bandwidths up to
6.0Mbps, provide a greater range
of frequencies enabling more information
to be sent and received.
- Cable
modems: Great access speeds
with some drawbacks. One drawback
is that of being broadcast-oriented,
thus, producing SHARED signals between
subscribers in a specific area.
And, with many subscribers in each
specific area, the bandwidth lessens.
In addition, cable access is only
available in a limited area. There
is no choice regarding providers.
Cable companies are not experienced
as Internet Service Providers.
- Analog
modems: This is the most common
form of data communications available
today but, analog modems are extremely
limited by the telephone company's
voice bandwidth service. Current
analog modems are achieving rates
of only 56Kbps, whereas the slowest
DSL connection is 144Kbps. This
technology uses a telephone service
as is. A digital to analog conversion
for transmission is performed onto
the network and vice versa on the
receiving end.
- ISDN:
This technology has been around
for many years. With the increase
of Internet usage its popularity
is beginning to increase due to
the limitations of analog modems.
It requires a phone company to install
services within their phone switches
to support it's digitally switched
connection service. It provides
digital service in increments of
64Kbps channels. The maximum being
two at a total of 128k. You incur
minute by minute charges. Plan on
phone bills exceeding $500 a month
if you rely heavily on the Internet.
